You’re a busy girl in a busy world.
You’re the office butterfly, your boss’ favourite (obviously!) and when five o’clock rolls around – you’re more often than not off to another engagement. Whether it be after-work drinks with the girls, your local women in business meeting or yoga, you’re always on the go!
It makes sense that sometimes you don’t always have time to drive, walk, run, take the train home to change after work for a last minute date night on the town.
No worries. It’s actually quite an easy transition. And if you plan accordingly before leaving your place in the morning – it’s totally do-able.
Here’s how to go from office sweetheart to date night heartbreaker in three simple steps.
1. Dress Up to Dress Down
Confused? Don’t be. If you typically wear dress pants and a blouse or anything business casual to the office, you may want to dress a little fancier on date day. For example, a great A-Line dress with a blazer is super office chic, totally appropriate and can later magically turn into the perfect date night look when you remove the blazer. Going on a much more laidback date? Pair a dressier top with your dress pants and blazer – you’re coworkers will totally notice how fab you look and by the time six o’clock rolls around, you’ll be ready to wow your date too.
2. Play Switch
Every girl has a pair. Her go-to office or work shoes. They’re comfy. They’re office appropriate. And for most, they’re not meant to see the light of day out of the office. That’s ok. We all have them and our feet are totally thankful for their comfort by the end of the week. But they’re not exactly date night appropriate – are they?
If you follow our dress up to dress down rule, there’s no need to bring a change of clothes for your date to work. But – we do recommend throwing a second footwear option into your bag alongside your lunch when you leave for the day. Go on dates or after-dinner engagements often? Why not keep a pair of heels at your office?
We promise that simply switching up the shoe to a sexy heel or a coloured flat will instantly make your date night outfit feel new. Those office shoes may give you a confidence boost in the boardroom. Those date shoes will give you a confidence boost on the town.
3. Refresh
Before leaving the house on date day, make sure to fill your purse or travel makeup bag with all the essentials you will need for a quick, three-minute makeup refresh for your date. Key items should include:
- Tinted Moisturizer – Instead of packing more foundation onto your skin, opt for a quick refreshing pinch of tinted moisturizer to nourish your skin and provide a polished finish with a hint of glow. We love Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer!
- Blush – Your favourite blush to add a quick pinch of color to your cheekbones. For an assortment of colours on the go, we love Nars Foreplay Blush Palette!
- Pick Me Up Eye Pencil – Give a quick swipe of a brightening pencil under your brows and in the corner of your eyes to illuminate. We love Benefit’s Eye Bright!
- Lipstick – If you’re more of a lip gloss gal in the office, date night is the perfect excuse to switch it up and try a fun coloured lipstick to add the final touch to your perfect date night outfit. Add an element of kissable plump with Buxom’s Big & Healthy Lipstick!
You’ve got the look. You’ve got the shoes. You’ve got the perfect refreshed face. Now knock’em dead! Or not… that may make for an awkward date night, no?
