Long before we declared #BoPo – there were some Hollywood beauties working hard to lead the way. Among these incredible women were Grammy winning singers, Oscar nominated actresses, beloved reality stars and a few on-screen superheroes saving the day and surviving the Hunger Games.
What these women all have in common – is not their love and appreciation for their body and their size, just the way they are; it’s their belief that all women should do the same.
In a world where the media has made a fine line between what’s normal by their standards compared to ours – it’s now more important than ever for these #BoPo role models to leave valuable, important impressions on the young women of today who will become the women of tomorrow.
Without question, these women are all superheroes in our eyes. Why? Because in a world rampant with eating disorders, a blurred vision of what defines a normal, healthy body size and extreme dieting techniques by the dozen – these beautiful, strong, women simply don’t give a f%$k.
And we love them for it.
Here Are Our Seven Favorite #BoPo Celebs
Not only a favorite singer of the BeauCoo bunnies – we can’t help but love Adele and think she’s worthy of being the first mentioned when #BoPo comes to mind. Even after getting called the unmentionable F-word by Karl Laggerfield, the British star was quick to address this by admitting she rarely thinks about her body size and feels no pressure to conform to what society deems normal. Her advice to women everywhere? “The first thing to do is be happy with yourself and appreciate your body – only then should you try to change things about yourself.”
2) Rebel Wilson
Her breakout role may have been Pitch Perfect but we’ve loved Rebel since her small role as Kristin Wigg’s strange roommate in Bridesmaids and we can’t wait to see her steal the screen alongside Kristen Dunst and Isla Fisher in Bachelorette. But when Rebel isn’t making us laugh so hard it hurts – she’s one of our favorite #BoPo advocates. We love her confidence, determination and hell yeah attitude.
3) Scarlett Johansson
This curvy beauty rocked a catsuit for her role as the Black Widow in last year’s Avengers but the on-screen superhero had no qualms about taking a stand against media criticism about her need to lose weight for the role. Particularly when one tabloid claimed she had to lose 14 pounds off of her 5’3” frame. “If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot,” Johansson told the press. “I would be absolutely mortified to discover that some 15-year-old girl in Kansas City read one of these ‘articles’ and decided she wasn’t going to eat for a couple of weeks so she too could ‘crash diet’ and look like Scarlett Johansson.”
4) Jennifer Lawrence
This Oscar nominated actress may have killed it as Katniss Everdeen in last year’s Hunger Games but it wasn’t without harsh accusations of being too thick for the role. In true #BoPo fashion – Jennifer was quick to stand her ground. Especially for her younger fans. “I’m never going to starve myself for a part,” said Lawrence. “I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.’ I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong—not thin and underfed.”
5) Amber Riley
Glee actress turned broadway star – Amber Riley who plays Glee Club member Mercedes on the hit TV show deserves a #BoPo mention for her determination to not change who she is because of the Hollywood demands. “I’m not going to conform, and hurt myself, and do something crazy to be a size 2,” Amber told the press. After several weight fluctuations over the years, the television star has found herself in a really good, really positive place. “That’s the key to life, is make your own path, set your own rules. There is no set rule, no set look, no set anything, you make your own rules in life, and your own decisions.”
6) Lena Dunham
The writer, director and star of HBO cult favorite Girls ruffled some feathers this year when her character flaunted her naked body (which some deemed not tv worthy) on the TV show without a care in the world. Even better, when her on-screen boyfriend asked why she couldn’t lose 15 pounds, she responded that she’d worry about more important things. Lena says her character isn’t far off from the real her. We say – keep flaunting it Lena!
7) Khloe Kardashian
When it comes to the Kardashians, it’s hard to keep up! See what we did there? But one thing is certain – when the media aren’t talking about her sister Kim’s latest scandal or Kourtney’s volatile relationship with Scott Disick – they’re talking about Khloe’s weight. In true #BoPo fashion – Khloe never seems to let it phase her. Even when faced with a nip-slip on live television – she laughed it off and tweeted “I had a nip slip and I love it!” While not everyone might be so blasé about revealing themselves on national television – we have to admire her carefree attitude. “I’m proud of my body…. I’m finally in a good place and learning to love me for me and not somebody else’s standards,” Khloe stated on her website.
